Why we often put even more pressure on ourselves in uncertain times

What I have observed time and again, both in my many years of professional experience and in my interactions with our guests, is something very human:

When we start to feel uncertain, we often try to create even more certainty. We discuss things at greater length, analyse them more thoroughly, seek a second opinion, search for the perfect solution and would ideally like to rule out every possible contingency.

But often, that is precisely what leads to even more effort and stress.

We get lost in our thoughts, go round in circles and feel as though we have to achieve more and more. Yet what we really long for is clarity, trust and a sense of security.

Our animals deal with such situations in a completely different way. They live in the here and now. They don’t spend ages debating which path might be even better. They focus their attention on the next step.

That’s why I always tell our guests:

„All the animal really has to do is follow along. Keep your eyes on your goal. If you know where you want to go, a lot of other things will fall into place.“

That doesn’t mean being carefree or reckless. Nor does it mean stopping asking questions. But it does mean not having to control everything.

Keeping sight of what really matters when things change

It is precisely in times of change, uncertainty and ever-changing demands that we humans sometimes lose sight of what really matters. We look too much to the left and right, concern ourselves with things we cannot influence, or try to keep everything under control at once.

Sometimes there’s no need for further discussion or absolute certainty. Sometimes it’s enough to pause for a moment, focus on what really matters, and take the next step.

Perhaps this is precisely what constitutes an important skill today – for managers, for teams, for families and for each and every one of us:

  • Don’t always do more.
  • Don’t always think about it more and more.
  • But trust more again.

After all, security doesn’t come from controlling everything. It often comes from trusting ourselves and having the courage to move forward, one step at a time.

And sometimes a llama, a camel or a donkey can teach us more than many clever books.

A place to recharge your batteries between Munich, Salzburg and Passau

For us, the Lama Oasis is more than just a day-out destination. It is a place for meeting people, slowing down and gaining new perspectives.

People from Bavaria and Austria come to us for llama treks, animal-assisted encounters, team-building activities, seminars, or simply to escape the daily grind for a few hours.

It is precisely in times of change, stress and uncertainty that nature and spending time with animals can be a valuable source of mental well-being, resilience and inner balance.

Perhaps that is exactly what we all need a little more of these days:

Slow down. Connect more.

Less perfection. More humanity.

And sometimes, simply walking alongside a llama is enough.
