When a smile says more than a thousand words

Our llamas recently had the chance to visit a care home – a day full of emotion, warm encounters and unforgettable moments. This visit meant a great deal to us, as Manfred’s mother lives there.

When we arrived, two large circles of chairs had already been set up, with residents seated around them. As soon as Romeo, Heino, Julius and Bolero arrived, everyone was absolutely fascinated. Everyone wanted to stroke the llamas, feel their soft wool or get up close to them.

One particularly lovely moment was when Manfred greeted his mother by name. You could really see the pride on her face. At the same time, she was completely surprised by how many people the llamas’ visit had attracted and the enthusiasm they sparked.

Our charmer Romeo certainly lived up to his name. He greeted the residents in his very own way and generously handed out his famous „llama kisses“. Everywhere, people were laughing, beaming and chatting. For a moment, worries, pain and limitations seemed to fade into the background.

It was particularly moving when we visited the bedridden residents in their rooms, accompanied by Heino.

The carers prepared us for this gently: „Don’t expect too much. They usually just lie there and show hardly any reaction.“

When Heino approached the first bed, this assessment seemed, at first, to be confirmed. No movement, no glance, no discernible reaction.

But then something wonderful happened.

When the resident realised that there really was a llama standing next to her bed, a smile slowly spread across her face. At first it was tentative, then it grew clearer and clearer. The moment was so moving that even the two carers had tears in their eyes.

„We haven’t seen anything like this for a long time,“ one of them said quietly.

That is precisely why visits like these are so valuable. Animals often reach people in ways that words cannot. They bring people closer together, stir memories, evoke emotions and restore a zest for life – sometimes for just a brief moment, sometimes with an impact that lingers long afterwards.

For us, this day was a striking demonstration of just how much warmth, comfort and joy our llamas can bring.

We would like to thank all the residents, as well as the dedicated nursing and care team, for their warm welcome. It was a visit we will certainly never forget.

Perhaps Romeo, Bolero, Julius and Heino will soon be winning over lots of hearts again.
